Besides temples, you can have a half day free time for a small walk in Siem Reap town. Recommend for the morning as the weather is cooler than in the afternoon. Start with a visit to a particularly important sanctuary for the inhabitants of Siem Reap. This small altar is located near the royal residence and contains two standing Buddhas: Preah Ang Chek and Preah Ang Chorm. They are believed to hold immense powers. The faith of the faithful in these beliefs is palpable.



Then continue to see the most beautiful pagodas and shrines such as Wat Damnak, the biggest pagoda in town; Wat Bo, the oldest pagodas; Wat Preah Prom Rath, etc. If there is still more time, visit a faraway one Wat Thmei, renowned as Siem Reap’s Killing Fields from the Khmer Rouge Regime. Finally, Wat Athvea, a 12th-century Hindu temple, was built in the same period as Angkor. The area where you find also the modern pagoda that resides on the same grounds. To visit Wat Atvea, your Angkor PASS needs to be valid to use. During the visit to the pagodas, why not get yourself an experience with a Buddhist blessing ceremony? After a short chant, the monk will bless you with lustral water. This ritual, very popular among the Khmers, aims to chase away evil spirits such as illness or bad luck! End your tour with a stop at a local coffee shop to enjoy a local coffee style and learn more about the local daily life!
